Trafficking in women
What Can You Do?
• Ask her a direct question about her plans. Let her speak freely about that.
• Do not blame her for what she has decided;
• Show her that you are worried about her and that you support her;
• Tell her about women trafficking and forced prostitution, as well as for the risk that leaving for abroad can hide;
• Encourage her to share her plans with her parents, relatives or an adult at school;
• Give her the telephone number of the Service for Support at Foundation for Cares in the Community Diva – 032/ 64 10 69 / 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. / or of the twenty-four-hour Hot Telephone Helpline 02/ 981 76 86. After having dialed these telephone numbers you will be given information you need before you leave the country. You will understand how to avoid the risk and to look for help in Bulgaria or abroad, for support and understanding as all that will be kept dead secret;
• Share your fears with somebody you trust – your parents, a teacher, a school psychologist and together you decide whether you should call in the Police for help;
• If your friend has refused, you can be the one to call the Service for Supporting Women Suffered Violence as to receive ideas and support in the mission you has taken up;
• If your friend is quite determined to leave the country you should insist that she has to take the address and telephone number of the Bulgaria Embassy with her as well as the telephone numbers of organizations providing assistance for women in trouble in the country she is leaving for.
Do not feel guilty if she leaves Bulgaria. This is a matter of her own choice. If you feel confused, apply for help.
