Trafficking in women
If You Are in Trouble
• Call in the Police for help. In Western Europe the Police are familiar with the character of women trafficking. There you can call on the street police- officers for help. In the countries from Central and Eastern Europe (The Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Greece, Macedonia, Turkey) it would be good for you to go to the police station and there tell what has been happening to you. The police officers are under the obligation to render you assistance. You can tell them you are afraid to leave the police station. Ask for an interpreter and ask them to help you get into contact with the Bulgarian Embassy.
• Call in the Bulgarian Embassy in the country you are in. The people working at the Embassy are obliged to render you assistance too. Ask them for protection as well as to help you get into contact with your relatives in Bulgaria. If you do not have your documents or you have forged ones, then the Bulgarian Embassy will give you a special document so that you could return to Bulgaria legally.
• Call in an organization for supporting women suffered violence. In many countries there has been established a Hot Telephone Helpline providing support for women victims of violence. Try to remember this telephone number and at the first chance call this Helpline. Some organizations offer a secret lodging where you can take shelter until you decide what to do later.
• If you have any trouble and do not know what to do, call the twenty-four-hour Hot Telephone Helpline (00359 32) 64 10 69.
