How Can I Help a Friend, Who Has Suffered from Violence?
• Believe her! Show her that you support her.
• Ask her to tell you about her liaison.
• Talk to her frankly and with respect.
• Explain to her that physical violence in a relationship cannot be accepted at all. Drug and alcohol dependence as well as a financial problem, depression or jealousy cannot serve as an excuse for the acts of physical violence.
• Explain to her that violence in relations between partners is a crime as well, just like robbery or raping.
• Ask her direct questions. Give her the chance to come to o solution of the problem on her own, while speaking about what has happened.
• Identify the controlling attitude in her relationship.
• Tell her that despite all his promises, violence will most probably continue.
• Work out a plan for safety together.
• Use the local resources for support and professional aid, school authorities, Police, a law counselor.
• Call the Service for Support of Women, Suffered Violence.
